Midnight Madness

I’m not exactly sure what came over me last night but it sent me into a cleaning frenzy that lasted past midnight.

All I remember was taking a stack of paperwork that desperately needed filing, placing each one into their color-coded folder in the cabinet and realizing just how messy the upper shelf in the office/guest room closet was.

It was only around 8:00PM so I decided to take everything down, dust, wipe the shelving, and put everything back in proper order so it would look all nice and pretty the next time I opened the closet door.

Big mistake.

There I was, standing in the middle of the room with a feather duster in one hand and a damp lavender scented cleaning rag in the other when it suddenly dawned on me – When was the last time I actually deep cleaned this room?

I spend a lot of my non-office time helping my folks or regulating things that need to get done place, which means that I often put aside “my” stuff figuring that I can always get to it later.

I really should have dropped both cleaning items right then and there in the middle of the floor (*drop the mic*), simply walk away, shut the door behind me, wash my hands and go to straight to bed.

But I didn’t.

Bigger mistake.

My eyes spotted the layer of dust on the treadmill, the small pile of clean laundry strewn on the corner of the futon, the specks of dust on the wool area rug…

I’ll stop there because you get the picture.

What you do need to understand is that I have a secret superpower I rarely ever talk about.

When I start cleaning, my x-ray vision superpowers take over and I just can’t help myself. You see, when I’m done cleaning a room, I can actually see the neatness and cleanliness right through the closed drawers, closet and bedroom doors. I am not the only one with this superpower because a friend also suffers from this disease. Years ago, there was even a time when we would talk on the phone, commiserate about it and clean all at the time. Multitasking at its best.

Unfortunately for you, my story doesn’t end here.

Am I embarrassed to say that I ended up cleaning my bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, dining and living room, even re-organizing the pantry and medicine cabinet (discarding expired items, putting like items together, etc.)?

Maybe just a little.

What I will say is that the upper level of this place has never been this sparkly in a very, very long time. And all that cleaning is therapeutic because not once did I think the day’s about yesterday’s stressful day at work.

So what’s the moral of my story?

There is none.

This was just a random episode in my day’s storyline. 🙂

  1. I find that when I finish cleaning to that extent, I can think more clearly. I’m not sure if that’s just me. And when my house is in disarray, it’s usually because I’m going through something.

  2. Haha, I cleaned my kitchen yesterday. Same deal. Didn’t think it was that bad but there were a few things that needed reorganising then all of a sudden I have cleaning products out and I’m scrubbing the floor, the worktops, the whole lot. But it is so clean now and I found the whole process immensely therapeutic! Didn’t quite have your stamina though so now all the other rooms in the house are stressing me out…

    • Lol! It must be something in the water. Or the hot weather! I have a hard time stopping especially when on a roll. After work today, I will be attacking the lower level, except for the garage ( which is mini disaster that I can shut the door on until winter when I have to get to the snowblower)😨

  3. the secret superpower huh.. 🙂 cleaning is a good thing, one things leads to another and you end up cleaning more than you actually thought of you would in the first place. The good part is when everything is over and your having a shower…its like the best feeling ever.
