Written a few weeks ago while on the Star Princess…

“How was last night for you?”

“Fantastic! I like it when it’s rough.”

I’m surprised that the cabin steward looked at me like I had grown two heads. I can’t be the only cruiser who enjoys the ride when the seas are a little rough, right?

Of course, I’m not talking about the kind of rough where dinner plates are sliding off tables and wine glasses are flying off the shelves like in that scene from Titanic. I’m talking about when its just bumpy enough to make passengers look a little tipsy walking down the corridor.

Okay, so maybe I am a little weird that most others were complaining while I didn’t even blink an eye at the 25 foot swells we had that made us late getting into the next port.

Coming from someone like me who has always had trouble sleeping, I’ve gotten the absolute best sleeps while on cruises. If I sit still for a little too long in a chaise on deck in the shade near one of the pools on a sea day, you’ll find me fast asleep and probably snoring away. The rocking motion of the waves is like relaxing in a hammock on a windy day or like being a baby in a cradle.

Call me weird. But you can also call me rested! 🙂

When YOU are on vacation, what do you enjoy that others don’t “get”? Tell us in the Comment box.

  1. I think the “rough” gives some excitement to the cruise like speed in a car. I love when the wind is blowing and the sea is howling. It gives me a deeper respect for the ferocity of nature.
I can’t sit still on vacation so I like to grab a bike and explore the niches – too much work for many of my crowd, 😉

  2. When my family vacations together, they all head for the main attractions, but I prefer to explore and find the little hideaways that out-of-towners know nothing about. Found some amazing treasures and deals. 😉
