Three questions have been nagging me.

But I know that YOU have the answer to at least one of them!

Question 1: Pinterest images

I found the image above on Pinterest and I’d like to use it to accompany my next “Ella” fiction installment, “When I’m Bad, I’m Better” on August 9th. If you’ve been following some of my short fiction, you know Ella and how she rolls

But I’m not sure if I should use images from Pinterest since I don’t know where some of them are from…and yet here I am posting it anyways to show YOU! :0

I googled this image but a number of people have adapted it…

How does this “Pinterest thing” work when it comes to giving credit for an image? Do you have any suggestions for other sites besides Foter and Pixaby for free images/gifs like the one above?

I’m looking for similar images for future fiction. Sexy but not too sexy …and with no visibly naked body parts.

Question 2: Vanishing Blogs

I recently realized that certain blogs I originally followed and enjoyed when I first started on WP have vanished and that may be the reason why I haven’t commented or “liked” your posts in a while, maybe even a long while…Sorry!

Has this happened to you?

Also, I realized that when I use the WordPress Reader, there are often HUGE gaps of time missing. I can be reading a blog posted from 12 hours ago and then the next blog will be from 5 hours ago. Where did those missing hours go? Is it because I turn off my cell from 9 – 5? I’m not too sure about that since I sometimes leave my cell on (with notifications turned off) by accident and hours still go missing…

Question 3: Organization of blogs

I follow a lot of blogs. Too many blogs. Wayyy too many blogs… I need to find a better system to read them in some sort of rotation. I don’t really like the WP Reader but at least I can access it from my phone/tablet while on the go. I don’t want to sign up for blogs by email because I don’t want to be tied to my laptop. Some of you automatically post to Twitter and I’m notified of a new post…I’ve slowly started setting up “feeds” according to types of blogs in my laptop’s browser but it will take a while to sort it out. I’ll hit “open all in tabs”, let them load up and then go through each one. Do you have any “organizing” suggestions when you follow a lot of blogs?

If you have any answers, feel free to leave them in the comment box! Thanks and have yourself a wonderful Saturday!

M  xoxo

  1. When i am looking for pictures, i type in “royalty free images —” that way the pictures that turn up are free to use, or you can go into google settings and change to advanced searching options and select “free to use” images 🙂

I was going to suggest email for the blog organization since that is what i do. I have a separate account for my blog so if i dont have time or dont want to deal with blog emails i can just ignore it. Also, if i find myself deleting the blog notifications without even opening them, i know its time to unfollow that blog. Every few months i go through my list of blogs i follow and delete those im no longer interested in.

  2. I just found out about canva, it’s not essentially free, and I’m not sure about the sexy images, I guess I just failed at answering your first question. And then I deleted my old blog and moved my followers, so I’m not sure about the process from your side. 😊

  3. My thought is that it’s always better to be as careful as possible with the permissions/attributions. Especially since I’d want people to be careful with my work.
I’m using feedly with some of my blogs. It lets you put blogs into categories, so there’s some organization there. I’m not completely happy with it, but at least it’s something.
I usually wind up just commenting on whatever strikes me, though, because I do think interest makes for better conversation than a schedule where I’m going through a list.

  4. I know that Unsplash is great when going for free images, BUT I’ve noticed that when searching for specifics, they don’t have anything..good. You can try pexels.com or freeimages.com

I’m not sure how organization of categories work with the blogs you follow. I’ve been trying to figure out what’s going on with the time gap too and thought it was just me. And most blogs I follow I’m not seeing in the Reader and/or get emails from; at least from most. So, lately I had to visit one by one.
So I’m not so sure but if I find out something in the meantime, I’ll let you know.

  5. A1. I would suggest using a stock photo instead of one that you found on Pinterest because it might be from a photographer’s account. Pixaby and Unsplash are two very good ones and they’re free to do whatever you like.
A2. You have to check if you are still following, that has happened to me where I was magically unfollowing a lot of people and had to refollow again.
A3. As far as the time gaps, it’s not just you that happens to me as well.
A4. Besides the Reader I follow most blogs on Bloglovin that way they are on my phone by app and not clogging up my already massive email inbox. I believe there’s an option to organize by topic as well but I don’t follow that many fir there to be an issue

  6. I have to admit Marquessa I just use Pinterest images and out http://www.pinterest.com. I learned from using images for magazine articles, as long as you put the site you got it from, and give credit it’s fine. But if you’re worried, go into the picture, and go into the site, the image was taken from, then forsure, you will be giving proper credit. If it’s a special image, such as a photograph, I will do that. Pixebay is also a good. General site for images and I think, they may even say who photographed the pictures so you give their name. For many images, I search on Google. Then, if I like the image, I copy it to my pictures album on my iPad and put the site I got the picture from exactly, going into the picture, and putting it under description. It comes up as small italic print beneath the photo.

As for blogging and organizing blogs. I struggle with that myself. The Twitter idea is good. But I quite honestly, prefer to have my fav blogs sent to my email. I may not comment on everyone or skip a few, if a blogger posts many posts a day, but I have a choice than what I read/delete. If I don’t find I read a blog a lot but sometimes, I it in my viewer. If I have a blog which constantly over posts and I never find myself reading, I delete it. Ou can choose how often you receive each blog, so maybe some blogs you want everyday, and others you want once a week.

The downside, if I’m busy a day or doing other writing, my inbox can get very full and I am one of those people who hates having a full inbox and it does weigh on my mind when I have 300 + emails to go through. I would choose a separate email for this, only for blog email.

    Hope that helps.💙

Great blogs thrive because of comments and readership. I'd love to hear from you!
