What Now Wattpad? #52things52weeks #simplymarquessa #wattpad

I tackled 2 easy items on my 52 Things In 52 Weeks list before I start a number of mini 7, 14, 21 and 30 day challenges…

I uploaded “Two Can Play That Game” and the first installment of “We Can’t Be Friends” to Wattpad.wattpad_cover

I had no clue that I had to develop a cover for each of these but I’m happy that I learned something new.

But now that the stories are up, I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do…

Am I simply waiting to see how many Wattpad readers stumble across it?

Do you have anything posted on Wattpad?ย  If so, do you have any tips to provide?ย

  1. Keep adding chapters weekly at a set time if you can. I’ve been on their a half a year or so, I’m not so sure why some writers are popular and why others aren’t — no one is. But it’s an ideal place to get feedback from people you know. It’s good to talk to your readers if you get some ( ad I haven’t done that) be conversational before you get down to your chapter and leave people hooked as you would for a serial. For me I just find it’s the easiest place to work on each chapter from my novel draft. I’m @mandibelle16 and I know Yinglan is on here too. Lots of books to read for free so I like that part — although some aren’t very good, at least they tried ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I started my Thief of Dragons series on Wattpad, before turning it into a serial on my blog. It was really great getting a feel for the timing on where to leave off to keep readers interested and it was also fun making the covers. However, I noticed that it takes a very long time and a lot of interaction to gain any traction on Wattpad. It seems the most popular genres are the YA and Dystopian. I could be wrong, that’s just my experience. I would say add me, but I never go on there anymore.

Hope you have better luck with it! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I went and checked your WP profile and this story. A couple of things. First, the story and your writing is good so you shouldnโ€™t have any problem with it. You have just one chapter up so if you have a couple of more put them up. People see one chapter and may think you are not going forward with your story and they will not waste their time. Second, you have a good cover but it can be much better. Make a better one of look for people on Wattpad that will make one for you. There are many who people who do it well and for fun. Third, and most important, work it. It does take a bit of work to get noticed but it isnโ€™t too hard or impossible. Go follow some more people who write or like the same stuff you do. Interact with their stories. Go vote and comment and people will come check out your stories. I have about 4 thousand followers and I write non-fiction which is probably the least popular genre on Wattpad. All you have to do is get noticed a bit and if you keep people engaged your fan base will keep growing.

    1. Thanks for the feedback! I was thinking of taking them down and posting my novella when its done. As for the cover, I had a little fun testing one out just for the heck of it.๐Ÿ˜Š I plan on getting one professionally done that can be repurposed for a follow up. Totally agree with Networking on Wattpad – I’ll be doing that for sure.๐Ÿ˜š
