Everybody’s Got A Story (Charlotte)

I was horrified when Zander bent down on one knee in the middle of Central Park.

“What are you doing? Get up from there! People are looking.”

I felt nauseous because I already knew what he was doing. Zander refused to listen and grabbed my left hand.

“I don’t care. I’m only interested in you looking at me right now, Charlotte.”

“Don’t do this here in front of everyone,” I hissed. I didn’t even try to hide my anger.

Zander was putting me in a horrible position. People stopped to witness his foolishness and some had even taken out their cells to video us. Everybody’s got a story and they all wanted to be a part of ours.

Fucking social media whores.

Zander ignored my words.

“You said that if you ever got married, you’d only do it once. I’m hoping that your “once” will be with me. Marry me Charlotte?”

The happiness in his eyes sickened me. And the idiot was quoting something that I had said on a whim and that wasn’t even true. All I wanted to do was punch him in the face.

“Zander, get up! You don’t even have a ring.”

I inhaled sharply when he reached into his jacket and produced a small ring box. He proudly popped it open and I saw the tiniest diamond ever. It didn’t even come close to qualifying for the 3Cs. Before I could say anything, Zander slid the ring onto my finger and looked up at me with his little silly eyes.

“Don’t keep me hanging. Will you marry me?”

Could I say no and embarrass him in front of all these people?

I’m Charlotte. Of course I could.
