Feelin’ Single (Victoria)

He’ll be waiting up for me.

The club was packed and the music blared. I watched Ella, Zoey, Abby and the others enjoying themselves but I couldn’t relax knowing that I’d be getting the third degree as soon as I walked in the door. He was always pissed at the rare occasions that I went out without him.

“Why did you bother coming if you aren’t going to have fun?” Ella yelled at me over the music and across the booth. “Put your cell away Vicky! He can survive without you for one night. Even Zoey’s feelin’ single.”

Zoey was oblivious to the rest of us sitting there. Her attention was on the cute guy sitting next to her and whispering in her ear.

I turned my cell over on the table to appease Ella. I wouldn’t be able to hear it ring but I would see if it vibrated with a call or text.

Abby sipped on her drink and gushed. “It’s soooo sweet that your boyfriend is so into you. He must really love you if he keeps texting like that.”

Abby didn’t know that his “attentiveness” was unbearably suffocating and that I’d spend the coming days dealing with his sulking and negative remarks just for the simple fact that I’d gone out with friends.

You shouldn’t be out with a bunch of single girls who are looking to get laid.

You’re choosing them before me.

We already don’t spend enough time together so why are you going with them?

I nodded and gave her a fake smile.

“Yeah. I’m a very lucky girl.”

  1. Emotional abuse is often disguised as a loving an attentive boyfriend. 😦 I really like the subtly of this. Not too obvious, but you can definitely tell that Mr. “Perfect” is gonna get more controlling as the relationship goes on.
