Song Lyric Sunday: “Walking on Broken Glass” – Annie Lennox #songlyricsunday

The prompt for this week’s #SongLyricSunday Challenge at “This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time” is:

Insanity, foolish behavior and intense anger are all various definitions of “madness” – that’s my take on this week’s prompt.

I’ve always loved Annie Lennox’s “Walking On Broken Glass”. In the video, she portrays all of the above as a woman scorned and begging the man she’s crazy about to take her back…utter madness because we all know that if you have to beg someone to stay, the relationship is already dead in the water.

By the way, do you recognize the “actors” in this video?

The sun’s still shining in big blue sky
But it don’t mean nothing to me
Oh, let the rain come down
Let the wind blow through me
I’m living in an empty room
With all the windows smashed
And I’ve got so little left to lose
That it feels just like I’m walking on broken glass

  1. I’ve loved this one since childhood, but back then I definitely did not understand metaphor and symbolism. It sounded, to me at the time, like that scene from Home Alone where the bad guy steps on all the broken Christmas ornaments. Painful and crunchy.

I will look up who is in the video, as I cannot see it. Thanks and great selection.

  2. I watched this video for inspiration to write a story and while it didn’t really help (the lyrics were the only thing I ended up needing) I did recognize the actors. It’s a great song (one I’d completely forgotten about). I also love Annie Lennox. Great pick!
