When All You Need Is To Fu*k It Out #amwriting

I’m back and I deserve a round of applause for lasting out this long!

I didn’t post a darn thing on this blog like I said I would and I surprised myself.

I also didn’t write anything offline.

No flash fiction, no editing, no outlines…Just plain old nothing. The most I did was jot ideas down onto Post-Its and stick them on my writing wall for future reference.

In order to get out of my not-so-great mood, I decided to immerse myself deeper into the funk until I found myself sick and tired of feeling sick and tired.

Sounds counter-intuitive but that’s what I did.

I tried to enjoy more of this on the weekends…

I failed miserably at doing any of this…

And I was very successful in doing way, way, way too much of this…

But it’s all good.

Because like a slice of hot apple pie topped with some chocolate fudge ice cream, the writing/blogging break has made me a little hungry to get writing again.

Tell me, when was the last time that you simply took a writing break?

Bisous,

M

  1. I’ve taken a semi-break from writing for three weeks. The only writing I’ve done is my weekly blog posts. My break was supposed to be just one week, but I have become very lazy and three weeks have passed. Maybe I’ll get back to work on my novel this week?

  2. I took a long break, accidentally, about two years ago. It was such a relief to get back to writing, and blogging turned out to be the key for me. Maybe it will work for you too. I hope so. 🙂

  3. I’m so glad to see you back here. Although I have not been here much.

I have been on an involuntary writing break for so long that I think it might be permanent. I don’t even try anymore. I keep waiting for it to just happen… I think I’ll be waiting forever. It really sucks, too, because without writing, my life feels even more empty than it already is. It’s bad.

That’s my sob story. Shutting up now!

    1. It comes and it goes for many of us. Hopefully the feeling/muse will return. How to use my blog and “why” I should blog is in better focus for me now. My blog will focus on general writing, small excerpts and musings. My newsletter will be more personal and include fiction. I’ll DM you soon.

      1. You have a great plan. Of course, you also have a goal, so that helps! It makes it much harder when you’re aimless… which I am. I thought about trying to have a newsletter or something like that, but I can’t even write for my blog… there’s no way I’d be able to come up with anything to put in a newsletter!

We haven’t talked in forever… miss you!

        1. Miss you too! I’ll be DMing you soon. The whole how to divide yourself up – blog, newsletter, Instagram – and what content to focus on is daunting but I’m watching what others are doing and learning. Three social media things are enough for me right now. 🙂

  4. An intentional writing break? Maybe December after NaNo? Otherwise, I tend not to.

Actually… I took a break this summer and allowed myself two days of *nothing*. I had no kids to be responsible for, I didn’t write, I just took off. It was…pretty nice. I did a 1000 piece puzzle and watched romance movies. I needed that.
