KNOWLEDGE is power.
If you can Google the new people who just moved in next door, you can spend some time googling the guy who is pursuing you.
You need to know about his background and if what he is telling you is actually true. It is a type of due diligence that you should follow to protect yourself and your time.
A “real” background check is not expensive when it comes to your safety and keeping yourself out of a compromising situation. Depending on your courthouse, there are even certain searches you can do for free.
What if he says he’s single but is married or only separated from his wife? What if he has a criminal history that would make you run in the opposite direction? What if he is so financially irresponsible that it would impact you in a future marriage?
If you find undesirable things about him, he doesn’t need to know that YOU know.
KNOWLEDGE will give you an opportunity to slowly back away and out of his life.
Agreed…again. Today, it is super easy to find out anything about anyone. And if the person doesn’t have some sort of digital footprint, I’d think that was odd as well.

That’s a really good point. There’s only so far that trust should go, I suppose!
