Simply Marquessa

Marquessa is a storyteller.

A voracious reader at an early age, she discovered that the pages of a novel could be a sweet escape into exciting worlds beyond her own. Little House on The Prairie, Nancy Drew and Sweet Valley High were just a few of her favorite books growing up. It was only when she fell in love with “I Know Why The Caged Birds” that she realized just how hungry she was for characters who looked more like her and narratives closer to what she could relate.

She quickly realized that she had the power to write the kinds of characters she wanted to see more of, like the characters in “How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents“, “Coffee Will Make You Black” and “The Joy Luck Club” and many others books that influenced her preference for novels with more of a cultural component.

Right now, Marquessa’s goals are three-fold:

Her primary goal is to write for the JOY of it. Her (secret) childhood dream of becoming a famous and revered published author has morphed into simply wanting readers to ENJOY the work she chooses to share with them.

Marquessa’s second goal is to cater to women who love seeing a little bit of themselves in the characters and stories she pens, being a voice for characters who happen to look like her within stories that are light & fluffy, dark and emotional, romantic and sexy and sometimes even inspirational.

Lastly, Marquessa is committed to challenging her writing and personal life boundaries – more to come on a little passion project she is working on.

When she is not trying to complete an evergreen unending list of  to-do lists, Marquessa can be found hiding away from the world, ideally curled up on her couch with her laptop, chilling to one of her 70’s or 80’s playlists with a bowlful of M&M and brainstorming the next cliffhanger she can come up with.

  2. It was nice to read about you. (It was a little hard to concentrate, though, because of that loud music you’re listening to.) I’m in the middle of doing Blogging 101 now, so I know how that feels. I love that picture up there in your banner, by the way.

  7. Don’t like hockey?!?! Well, I’ll still follow you but I am skeptical. BTW, have you ever read the Temperance Brennan books by Kathy Reichs? That’s my only experience with Montreal, so I assume everyone there is a forensic anthropologist with a hot policeman boyfriend. Probably incorrect, huh?

  12. I just finished watching episode 2 Season 5 of the olitz saga and I was like 😱 did that just happen. I watch it less for the romantic byline and more for some of the character dialogue they sprout forth the most insightful (occasionally demented sometimes downright psychotic) soliloquies and monologues and rants (esp daddy Pope, That TV presenter, Huck, Cyrus)

    anyhoo got carried away, interesting about page ^_^ glad stumbled across your blog.

  19. Those were interesting facts about you. I can tell how passionate you are in the things that you do. I am also old school when it comes to writing. I would still choose pen and notebook. But you know, we have to live with the contemporary and have to write using computers sometimes. Nothing bad about it.

  20. Wow! I navigated through your blog and it’s quite interesting reading some of your posts. I like your quote – “Life is just a story. And I’ve got a pen.” You captured it so well, writers pen down the stories of life that they love. It’s nice to meet you on this commenting bootcamp. 🙂

  21. Hi, love your post, and I love your banner. Wow what an image.
    I’ve just taken up writing again too, after many, many, years. Strangely I’ve found I love writing poetry and short stories, neither of which I’ve ever written before. It’s amazing what you can do when you allow yourself permission to go for it.

  28. Thanks for visiting my blog. I actually laughed out loud when I saw Days of our Lives. My parents are hooked on that show. They get so angry with some of the characters, but can’t stop watching. You are right about the writing of soap operas. I look forward to reading your blog.

    is to fall in love over and over,
