Song Lyric Sunday: “Beautiful Disaster” – Kelly Clarkson #songlyricsunday

The prompt for this week’s #SongLyricSunday Challenge at “This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time” is “Natural Disasters“.

But this is a hard one so I’m dropping the “natural” and going with straight up “disaster”.

The first song that popped into mind was this haunting one by Kelly Clarkson whose voice I simply love. This song was actually inspiration for my character Jake…but I’ll only tell you why when that novella becomes my project. 🙄

For me, this song is all about that sinking feeling, that knot in the pit of your stomach when you desperately want to help someone but the situation is so out of your control that you have no choice but to walk away…and not look back.

Oh and I don’t know
I don’t know what he’s after
But he’s so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful
Or just a beautiful disaster

This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time

In the last six months, we have seen some crazy things.  We’ve had hurricanes and fires and earthquakes and each new thing makes me shake my head.  Are we really headed for that crazy story I was told as a child about the end of the world (that was supposed to happen almost twenty years ago)?  Is the Universe pissed at us because we picked The Donald as President?  Are we mistreating the planet and Mother Earth has finally taken a stand?

It’s pretty crazy and scary to think about.  It is also awful and sad what the survivors have endured.  I think the only thing we can do is to live more in the moment. We also need to remember that caring for each other and lending a helping hand is the only thing we really have control over.

All that being said, it does lead us to our…

Song Lyric Sunday: “Walking on Broken Glass” – Annie Lennox #songlyricsunday

The prompt for this week’s #SongLyricSunday Challenge at “This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time” is:

Madness

Insanity, foolish behavior and intense anger are all various definitions of “madness” – that’s my take on this week’s prompt.

I’ve always loved Annie Lennox’s “Walking On Broken Glass”. In the video, she portrays all of the above as a woman scorned and begging the man she’s crazy about to take her back…utter madness because we all know that if you have to beg someone to stay, the relationship is already dead in the water.

By the way, do you recognize the “actors” in this video?

The sun’s still shining in big blue sky
But it don’t mean nothing to me
Oh, let the rain come down
Let the wind blow through me
I’m living in an empty room
With all the windows smashed
And I’ve got so little left to lose
That it feels just like I’m walking on broken glass

Song Lyric Sunday Theme Reveal for 1/7/18: “Madness”

It’s so so so cold outside. The kind of weekend where it is so cold that everyone is going nowhere fast. Indoor activities are the order of the day – cuddling up under the covers, relaxing with Netflix and eating lots of comfort foods…

It’s also a great time to unwind, listen to some good music and choose your song for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday Reveal: “Madness”.

This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time

Whew, it’s the new year!  I almost can’t believe it.  I’ve spent most of the week not really sure if it means anything, or it’s just that cycle of life that keeps on turning and the only reason we have things like days and months and years is because we’ve given meaning to it.  I suppose time has always been tracked in some way, and I think I’d rather that than nothing at all.  I’m not one for random chaos, so I think I’ll embrace the tracking of time in it’s current form.

As much as January feels like new life and hope and twelve brand new months to fill up, it can also feel pretty bleak, especially in the part of the world I live in.  It’s cold and dreary and there’s no days off to break it up.  It can almost feel like you’re losing yourself and it’s…

#SongLyricSunday: “Candyman” – Christina Aguilera #musicchallenge

This week’s prompt for Helen’s #SongLyricSunday Challenge is “Candy”.

Click above for more details on this challenge!

For this week’s challenge, I was going to throw back with Cameo’s “Candy” but “someone” beat me to it! You know who you are! 🙂 …

So my second choice is and seeing as to how it’s New Year’s Eve, I decided on Christina Aguilera‘s “Candyman“. It’s poppy, upbeat and full of…uh…not-so-subtle references to…uh…you’ll figure it out!

I met him out for dinner on a Friday night
He really got me working up an appetite
He had tattoos up and down his arm
There’s nothing more dangerous than a boy with charm
He’s a one stop shop, makes the panties drop
He’s a sweet talkin’ sugar coated candy man
A sweet talkin’ sugar coated candy man

Song Lyric Sunday Theme Reveal for 12/31/17 – “Candy/Sugar”

Candy, candy and more candy. I’ve overindulged so much over this holiday season that it’s just simply awful. The same may apply to you too! But, you can redeem yourself without all of the calories.
This week’s theme for Helen’s Song Lyric Sunday is “Candy”.

This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time

I don’t think I’m alone in being surprised that the year is over.  Where did it go?  It seemed to fly by in a flurry of hospitals, doctor visits and work.  That doesn’t sound too positive, and it really wasn’t, but I’ve decided to have a better attitude and focus more on what’s going right, rather than what’s gone wrong.

I used to come up with the themes on the spot, but I’ve found that some planning is nice.  It helps take the pressure off a bit; however, it also makes it so that the theme isn’t always relevant to what’s going on.  The last few weeks had nothing to do with the holidays (except my own interpretation), so I’m excited that this week’s theme actually sort of fits.

If you’re like me and most of the population, you’ve indulged way too much this holiday season, and just when you…

#SongLyricSunday: “Dangerous” – Michael Jackson

This week’s prompt for Helen’s #SongLyricSunday Challenge is “Dangerous“.

Click here for more details on this challenge

No matter how weird Michael Jackson ended up in his last years, I will always see him through my 1970s eyes when I believed that I could grow up and marry him.

I’m breaking protocol by not posting the lyrics because there really are none…?

Enjoy the video.
