Song Lyric Sunday: “Signed Sealed Delivered” – Stevie Wonder #songlyricsunday

The prompt for this week’s #SongLyricSunday Challenge at “This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time” is:

Letters

To be honest, I thought that finding a theme for this week would be easy peasy but I couldn’t think of a song that came to mind quickly for this prompt.

Dionne Warwick’s “Message To Micheal” was a little too low key for my mood, The Box Tops “The Letter” is not a favorite of mine.

But as the universe would have it, I turned on my favorite internet radio station and BAM!, the choice was made for me – Stevie Wonder’s “Signed Sealed Delivered”.

Now that’s what I call divine intervention!

Side-note: I was gifted tickets to see Stevie in concert a few years ago and it was an awesome concert. I spent most of the time out of my seat dancing!

Oh yeah baby, like a fool I went and stayed too long
Now I’m wondering if your love’s still strong
Oo baby, here I am, signed, sealed delivered, I’m yours
Then that time I went and said goodbye
Now I’m back and not ashamed to cry
Oo baby, here I am, signed, sealed delivered, I’m yours

Song Lyric Sunday Theme Reveal for 2/25/18: “Letters”

Like Helen mentions in tonight’s Song Lyric Sunday Reveal, I too miss the days of writing, sending and receiving letters in the mail.

Better days, simpler times…Ahhhh….

This week’s Song Lyric Sunday Theme is “Letters” so let’s get to it!

M xoxo

This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time

It seems the whole household has been sick for way too long.  I finally got it again and thought I was getting better, but then today, I feel like I’m starting all over again.  Being sick is the worst!  At least I have my weekly blog prompt to keep me coming back; otherwise, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here typing.

Times have changed a lot.  I remember when I was a child, we used to have pen pals.  We’d send letters to people and hope to get one back.  It was so much fun to get a letter in the mail.  It almost compares to that sound you used to hear when you got an email.  It’s crazy that even emails are starting to become a thing of the past.  Now you have instant access to your loved ones, so there’s no real waiting.  I enjoy the way things are…

Song Lyric Sunday: “The Truth” – India Arie #songlyricsunday

The prompt for this week’s #SongLyricSunday Challenge at “This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time” is:

Earth

I could easily have picked this song for the “02/04/2018 – “Truth”” prompt but instead I’m picking Indie Arie’s “The Truth” for today’s participation.

Not only does her music always have an earthy texture to it, her lyrics always have meaning.

And she is definitely right when she sings, “Ain’t no substitute for the truth, either it is or it isn’t“.

Pretty simple message, wouldn’t you say?

That’s the way I feel
And I always will
There ain’t no substitute for the truth
Either it is or it isn’t, ’cause he is the truth
You see the truth it needs no proof
Either it is or it isn’t, ’cause he is the truth
And you know the truth by the way it feels
And if I am a reflection of him
Then I must be fly

Don’t do it, don’t do it, don’t it...He’s lips are moving so you know he’s lying…

Just as I was about to get sucked into the vortex of Matt’s sad puppy dog eyes and Juan’s teary eyed look, it all hit me like a ton of bricks.

No. He’s just talking in circles with his tongue again…

I wasn’t obliged to make a decision about giving Matt a second chance, on the spot and under such pressure. I just needed to do what was best – for me.

“I’ll think about it.”

Matt’s eyes grew large and Juan kicked me under the table as if to change my mind.

“You…you’ll think about it?”

“Yes …because you might have been right about not getting too serious.”

“I’m not following you Lily…” Matt was clearly confused. “What are you saying?”

“I love you,” I said and saw his face light up, “But I need time. I need to make sure that you are the right man for me and to do that, I need to see who else is out there for the next while. While I do that, you can do the same.”

The words tumbling from my lips didn’t feel like they were coming from me. But they were. An awkward silence veiled the table. Matt was looking at me like I’d grown a third eye.

Not being able to take the drama anymore, Juan hastily wrapped the rest of his brownies in a napkin, muttered something about needing to be somewhere and disappeared from the pastry shop.

“Just before we met at that party, I’d posted a profile on Match but then, I took it down after our third date. But I’m thinking about giving the online thing a chance… at least for the next few months.”

Matt shook his head and clenched his hands. He was visibly upset.

“Months? Come on babe, are you honestly going to do that me? Is this your way of punishing me?”

“No, not at all. I need to be sure about what and who I want in my future. I need to protect myself.”

“From me?”

I didn’t answer. We stared at each other for a few moments before he gave me a frustrated yet determined look.

“I won’t accept that…I just won’t.”

“You don’t have a choice Matt.”

That’s when another flash of worry crossed his face.

“But what about my sister’s wedding this weekend? You’re just going to bail? What am I supposed to tell Mariah and the rest of my family?”

I had completely forgotten that Mariah, Matt’s sister had specifically invited me to hang out as she and her bridesmaids got dressed.

Shit.

“Please Lily, don’t do this now. You have to go. After the wedding, we can talk again about all of this, okay?”

On one hand, I didn’t want to disappoint and distract Mariah with our lover’s drama. But on the other hand, I needed to draw a line in the sand with Matt.

The wheels in my brain churned, turned and burned…

Shit.

“Fine. I’ll go but we won’t be going as a couple Matt. And there is nothing to rediscuss after the wedding…”

“Whatever you say Lily.”

From the way Matt’s lips curled into a small smile and his eyes twinkled at his tiny victory, I somehow knew I would regret it.

Matt stood up and shoved his hands into his pockets.

“Mariah will be getting ready at my folks place so I’ll pick you up and give you a ride there.”

What?

“No, I said that…” I was soon talking to empty air because Matt vanished before I could finish my sentence.

Yeah, I’m going to regret saying yes to this mess…Why didn’t I just tell him to keep on walking?

Song Lyric Sunday: “No Esperes Más” – Alex Cuba feat. Anya Marina #songlyricsunday

The prompt for this week’s #SongLyricSunday Challenge at “This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time” is:

Phone Calls/Calling”

I’m choosing Alex Cuba’s “No Esperes Mas” as today’s choice for the “Calling” part of the prompt. You won’t hear about telephones in this song. My take on the prompt is more about the calling of the soul, releasing yourself from the fears that bind you to follow the path truly meant for you… The video is beautiful illustration of what I feel this song is about.

If you don’t know Alex Cuba’s music, you should. I only recently discovered him through an interview I saw and he lives here in Canada.

Dime que sientes lo mismo

Cuando yo te miro

Se agita mi pecho

Algo que solo contigo

Yo se que yo siento

Sera que a mi vida

Le entregas el verdadero amor

Song Lyric Sunday Theme Reveal for 2/11/18: “Phone Calls/Calling”

What time is it? It’s Song Lyric Sunday Reveal time with This Thing Called Life One Word At A Time.! This week’s theme is “Phone calls/Calling”. I’ll be picking a song a little out of the box. What about you? Comments will be turned off. Please participate directly below.

This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time

Technology has come a long way in a very short time.  I remember some time around 2003, the talk of cell phones was starting to ramp up.  It was becoming more “the thing” to have one of your own and carry it around with you all the time.  I remember saying that I didn’t need one because if someone wanted to talk to me, they could call the house phone and leave a message.  I would call them when I was available.  There was no need for someone to get a hold of me while I was grocery shopping or driving.

I finally got one, but then I resisted texting.  I was pretty old-school about communication.  However, my daughter would only communicate through text, so I sort of had to do that or else risk never talking to her.

Now, we are all addicted to our phones, but they are…
